6 Days Trekking in Toubkal National Park

Day 1: Marrakech - Imlil - Tacheddirt

After a hearty breakfast in Marrakech, we set out for Imlil, passing through Asni. Imlil, a bustling market town and the main gateway for trekkers, is always lively with people descending from the mountains and others setting out for their adventure. Upon arrival, we meet our mule team to load our gear and start our trek. The path follows the valley toward Tacheddirt, about 8 kilometers from Imlil. The trail ascends to the Tizi n'Tamatert pass at 2,279 meters before descending to the charming village of Ouaneskra. From there, we continue for another half-hour to Tacheddirt at 2,300 meters, where we set up camp near the river.

Trek duration: 5-6 hours.

Day 2: Tacheddirt - Azib Likemt

Today, we cross the valley and embark on a challenging ascent to Tizi Likemt pass at 3,555 meters. The climb is strenuous due to loose scree underfoot, but the reward is breathtaking views of the Toubkal massif. After reaching the top, we descend to the village of Azib Likemt for an overnight stay in a camp.

Trek duration: 6-7 hours.

Day 3: Azib Likemt - Tizi n'Ourai - Amsouzert

This day is relatively easier but still long, taking us through diverse landscapes. We cross Tizi n’Ououraine pass at 3,120 meters, offering more spectacular views of the Toubkal massif, including the summit and the Ifni Dome at 3,876 meters. The trail leads to Amsouzert, a picturesque village where we spend the night in a simple village gite.

Day 4: Amsouzert - Ifni Lake

From Amsouzert, we explore several small villages before heading towards Ifni Lake, the only lake in the massif. Surrounded by rugged mountains and heaps of rock, the lake is both deep and stunning. We arrive by lunchtime and spend the afternoon relaxing by the lake. Camping is arranged in this area.

Trek duration: 4-5 hours.

Day 5: Ifni Lake - Nelter Hut

This is the most challenging day of the trek. We tackle a steep path up a seemingly endless scree slope to reach Tizi n'Ouanoums pass at 3,664 meters. The descent is long and winding, leading to Nelter Hut, where we either stay overnight or camp nearby.

Day 6: Mt. Toubkal Summit - Imlil

We leave before dawn to reach the summit of Mount Toubkal. The ascent generally lasts 2 to 3 hours, offering panoramic views of the Atlas range and the plains of Marrakech. After reaching the summit, we descend quickly to the villages of Sidi Chamharouch and Aremd, then follow the well-forested Mizane River trail to Imlil. From Imlil, we return to Marrakech, a transfer by car will take you there at the end of the day.
