Day 1: Marrakech - Ait ben haddou - Dades gorges

We pick you up from your accommodation in Marrakech at 8:00 am to start your journey towards Ouarzazate. As we leave Marrakech, we’ll drive through the awe-inspiring High Atlas Mountains. Ascending the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, which rises to 2,260 meters. This high mountain pass offers dramatic views of rugged landscapes and traditional Berber villages, making it a highlight of the journey.

Our first significant stop is Telouet, where we will visit the Kasbah of the Glaoui. This historic kasbah, once the residence of the powerful Glaoui family, is known for its grand architecture and intricate decorations. Although some parts are in ruins, the kasbah’s impressive scale and historical importance provide a fascinating glimpse into Morocco’s past.

Ait Ben Haddou kasbah

From Telouet, we proceed to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its well-preserved ksar (fortified village). The kasbah’s traditional earthen architecture and its strategic location along ancient trade routes have made it a popular filming location for movies such as "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Game of Thrones." We will explore the narrow alleys and towering structures. And you’ll have ample opportunities to capture photographs of this iconic site.

Continuing our journey, we’ll head towards Ouarzazate, where we will visit the Atlas Film Studios. Known for being one of the largest film studios in the world. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at the sets and production areas that have been used in numerous international films.

Next, we’ll explore the Taourirt Kasbah from the outside. This historical kasbah, located in Ouarzazate. Is notable for its intricate adobe architecture and historical significance as a former residence of the Glaoui family.

Amridil kasbah

Our journey continues through the scenic Skoura Oasis, where we will stop to visit the Amridil Kasbah . This well-preserved kasbah offers a picturesque view of traditional Moroccan architecture and is a fine example of the region’s historical fortifications.

As we drive through the Valley of Roses, known for its rose water production, and the scenic Dades Valley, we’ll eventually arrive at the Dades Gorges. The route through these valleys provides breathtaking views of the natural beauty and unique rock formations that define the area.

Upon reaching the Dades Gorges, we’ll check into a Traditional Berber guesthouse for the night. Day 2: Dades gorges - Todra - Erfoud - Merzouga

After breakfast at the hotel, we begin our journey towards Merzouga, heading out through the picturesque Dades Valley. The morning drive offers ample opportunities to admire and photograph the striking rock formations that define the region. As we reach Boumalne, we’ll pause to capture the stunning landscapes and the charming local scene.

Next, we’ll visit the lush palm groves of Tinghir, which provide a vibrant contrast to the surrounding arid environment. These oasis areas are a testament to the region's agricultural ingenuity and offer a peaceful setting for a brief exploration. From there, we continue to the Todra Gorges, renowned for their dramatic cliffs that soar up to 300 meters high. We’ll have time to walk through the gorges and take in the impressive rock formations.

In the afternoon, our route leads us towards Erg Chebbi, home to the vast Sahara dunes. Along the way, we’ll pass through Erfoud, a town known for its fossil heritage. Erfoud’s local markets and museums showcase a variety of ancient fossils, reflecting the area's rich geological history.

Upon arrival in Merzouga, the desert adventure truly begins. We’ll meet our camel guides and embark on a camel ride across the stunning Erg Chebbi dunes. This journey through the shifting sands provides an authentic desert experience as we make our way to the Sahara camp.

The camp, nestled within the towering dunes, offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the desert’s beauty. In the evening, you’ll enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner under the stars, accompanied by local music and entertainment around the campfire. Day 3: Merzouga

After breakfast, you'll have a full day to immerse yourself in the desert's captivating landscape. You’ll spend the night in the camp, surrounded by the dunes, reflecting on your day of desert exploration.

Day 4: Merzouga - Rissani - Tazarine - Zagora

After enjoying a hearty breakfast, we begin our journey to Zagora, renowned for its magnificent landscapes and historical charm. Our first activity is a leisurely camel ride to the village of Merzouga, then we drive to Rissani.

Upon arriving in Rissani, we dive into the vibrant atmosphere of the Tafilalt Market, one of the largest and most traditional markets in Morocco. Here, you’ll find a rich tapestry of colors and sounds as vendors sell a variety of goods, including spices, textiles, and crafts. This bustling market is a great place to interact with locals and observe the daily commerce that fuels this part of the country.

From Rissani, our route takes us to Tazarine, a small town known for its peaceful ambiance and surrounding natural beauty. As we pass through Taghbalt village, you’ll get to witness traditional Berber architecture and agricultural practices that define this rural landscape.

Arriving in Zagora, we will explore its extensive palm grove, a lush and verdant area that contrasts beautifully with the surrounding arid terrain. The palm grove is a vital part of the local ecosystem, providing shade and sustenance to both people and wildlife. The serene environment here is perfect for taking stunning photographs of the landscape, capturing the interplay of green palms against the backdrop of the desert.

In the late afternoon, we check into a comfortable hotel in Zagora, where you can unwind and enjoy the evening. A delicious dinner will be served, featuring traditional Moroccan dishes that offer a taste of the local cuisine. Day 5: Zagora - Agdz - Ouarzazate - Marrakech

After breakfast, we begin our return journey to Marrakech, setting out through the scenic Draa Valley. This valley is renowned for its lush palm groves and ancient kasbahs, providing a stunning contrast to the surrounding desert landscape. As we drive through the valley, you'll have ample opportunities to admire and photograph the picturesque scenery.

Our first significant stop is the Tamnougalt Kasbah in Agdz, an impressive example of traditional Moroccan architecture. The kasbah’s well-preserved walls and intricate designs offer insight into the historical significance and architectural style of the region. Exploring this kasbah provides a glimpse into the past and the lifestyle of its former inhabitants.

Continuing our journey, we pass through Ouarzazate, where we might briefly visit notable sites such as the Atlas Film Studios or the Taourirt Kasbah if time permits. Ouarzazate, known as the gateway to the Sahara, offers a mix of historical and modern attractions.

From Ouarzazate, we drive through the High Atlas Mountains once more, traversing the dramatic landscapes of the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. This mountainous route provides breathtaking views and photo opportunities as we descend towards Marrakech.
